Bernhard Capital Partners (“BCP”) is an operationally-focused private equity firm dedicated to investing across the energy services spectrum. With a 25-year track record of growing service businesses, maintaining and operating energy assets, and creating value for investors, the founding members of BCP are uniquely positioned to leverage their deep operational expertise and long-standing industry relationships to create attractive risk-adjusted return opportunities.

Established by former executive management team members of The Shaw Group, BCP seeks to partner with world-class management teams to build and grow successful energy services businesses. The Firm employs a philosophy of thoughtful action as it seeks to drive enhanced value through operational improvements and accelerated growth. From strategic industry insight to operational efficiencies to best-practice management, BCP looks to provide resources far beyond capital.

BCP aims to make control or path-to-control investments in North America but prides itself on thinking creatively to provide the best capital solutions for its partner companies.

BCP is led by Jim Bernhard, Founder and former Chairman and CEO of The Shaw Group. Over 25 years, The Shaw Group grew from a small pipe fabrication company to a Fortune 500, global, energy services-focused firm with significant engineering, construction, environmental, manufacturing, and other energy service capabilities. Its growth is partly attributable to acquisitions, which included a sophisticated rollup of pipe fabrication and manufacturing businesses, the integration of energy engineering & construction capabilities achieved through the acquisition of Stone & Webster in 2000, and the opportunistic acquisition of the IT Group in 2002 that expanded The Shaw Group into the growing environmental and infrastructure services sector and allowed it to become a preferred service provider to a diverse group of Fortune 100 commercial clients and governmental agencies.

With a successful M&A strategy and best-in-class operational-focus, The Shaw Group grew to over 30,000 employees across 150 locations worldwide and generated over $7 billion in annual revenue.

In February 2013, the Jim Bernhard led management team negotiated the sale of The Shaw Group to Chicago Bridge & Iron for $3.3 billion.

Following the sale, members of The Shaw Group executive management team established BCP to become an investment firm focused on generating long-term investment returns by leveraging the team’s 25 years of industry expertise and relationships to invest across the energy services spectrum. In addition, BCP has seasoned private equity and deal execution professionals as well as operating partners dedicated to sourcing and evaluating new investment opportunities and managing portfolio assets.

BCP’s differentiated investment strategy is rooted in the team’s operational expertise having successfully managed a large, high-growth, global energy services business.

BCP has the experience and relationships to source and develop portfolio companies across the energy services spectrum for growth and sustainability through market cycles.

The firm seeks to partner with talented managers with proven track records, the ability to handle complex and dynamic situations, and who are the motivation to create value for our investors. BCP employs capital structures that facilitate growth and promote the successful execution of the portfolio companies’ business plans.
